Hi students and parents

Hi students and parents.  Thanks for visiting the web page for Grade 7 Social Studies at Red Smith.  The information here may help you answer any questions you have about this class. The above links will provide additional information.

·        You will find daily/weekly homework and a daily agenda by clicking on the Homework link. Handouts needed for assignments may be linked here too.

·        You will find photos of class work and our classroom by clicking on the Class Work link.

·        You will find long range plans by clicking on the Calendar link.

Keeping up-to-date

Parents and students can stay up-to-date on topics and homework using the following strategies:

·        Parents –Check your child’s daily planner often - I will document late/missing work in this notebook.  Homework is always written on the board.  Students are encouraged to fill in assignments every day.  If no homework is assigned, they will be encouraged to write “no homework.”  If you do not see anything written in the planner, ask your seventh grader to update this for you.

·        Check this site daily – Assigned homework and a daily agenda will be updated daily.

Late Work Policy

  • Projects turned in within one week of due date receive 90% credit, after that no credit is earned.
  • To discourage copying, late worksheets receive no credit, or ‘F’, if not turned in immediately after class.

Please note:  if an assignment cannot be completed due to family emergency, please call or e-mail for an extended due date.  Students who are absent the day an assignment is given have two days for each day absent to complete work.  Extended assignments given prior to an absence are still due on assigned date, even if student is absent between day work is assigned and due date.  If student is unable to complete a long-term assignment due to illness, a note from a parent/guardian is appreciated.

Who is Mrs. Hubbard?

 Teaching Experience

I am entering my 23rd year of teaching in the Green Bay School District.  I have taught all grades between kindergarten and eighth, excluding fourth and fifth.  I have taught middle school students since 1994, but I have yet to spot a grey hair.  I taught middle school language arts for nine years, and then switched to grade 7 social studies in the fall of 2004.

Education

I earned my bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a broadfield social studies minor from UW-Eau Claire in 1984.  In 1992 I earned my master’s degree from UW-Oshkosh in reading education.

 Personal Facts

I grew up on a small farm just outside Gillett, which is 35 miles northwest of Green Bay.  I now live with my husband and 13-year-old son in Suamico.  My husband is a physical education teacher at Pulaski Middle School. In my spare time I enjoy golfing, jogging (more like trudging), downhill skiing, and music (I play piano and my husband has his own classic rock band).
