Individual Rights explaining why free speech and First Amendment rights harm the college
In Education experience. Essays should answer the question: Why is free speech important at
FIRE our nation’s colleges and universities? Essays should explain why violations of
student rights are incompatible with higher education, specifically citing the cases featured in two short FIRE documentaries:

First Place: $5,000 college scholarship. The winner will be featured on the FIRE and
CFN websites and receive an all-expense paid invitation to the 2012 Campus
Freedom Network Conference in Philadelphia, where they will meet with
Prominent free speech advocates, FIRE staff members, and student free speech
activists.
Second Place: One student will receive a $2,500 college scholarship. The winner
