    THE SIS BAND PROGRAM

Students enrolled in band meet everyday and learn the skills necessary to perform more advanced music. Each ensemble performs at concerts throughout the school year.

Students can participate in one or more of the following ensembles:

  • SYMPHONIC BAND
This is our most advanced band comprised of 8th graders. The Symphonic Band also learns how to march and performs with the SHS band at Homecoming.

  • CONCERT BAND
This band is primarily comprised of 7th graders. The focus of the Concert Band is to further develop the skills learned in Elementary Band.

  • CADET BAND
This band is comprised of woodwind and brass instruments and is designed for beginning students and students switching instruments. Students in this ensemble perform by themselves and with the Concert Band at several concerts throughout the year.

  • JAZZ ENSEMBLE
This group is comprised of 7th and 8th graders by audition only. The jazz ensemble rehearses after school on Wednesdays from early October until the end of April. Students in this group perform several times a year and enjoy other activities such as the New Trier Jazz Festival in February and the Elementary School Tour in April.

  • JAZZ COMBO
This group is open to any member of the jazz ensemble who wants to work more on jazz improvisation.

  • CHAMBER GROUPS
These groups start rehearsing in December for the District Solo and Ensemble Festival in March and rehearse before school. Possible groups include: flute choir, clarinet choir, saxophone choir, brass choir, and percussion ensemble.
